Name: Raphael Hamato
Canon: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012)
Canon Point: End of Season 4
Age: 18

Backstory: Turtlepedia

Personality:

+ Default emotional state and temperament: Raphael is often seen as the tough guy sort, though he tries to hide his emotions and often fails at it. He's quick to anger and sharp tongued, especially in situations that are hostile. He can come off as rude to people he doesn't know or trust yet, though he's actually rather compassionate and sensitive inside. Most of the time he hides this from others so not to be seen as "weak."

+ Motivations and goals: His drive to be strong, get stronger, and protect those he cares about is paramount to his motivations. Most of his life has been fighting to survive, so he would do the same thing in both the long and short term. He'd be motivated to keep going, even when he wants to give up, in Revan to find a way to get home to his family.

+ Regrets and fears: As both a strength and a weakness - Raphael fears losing himself to his anger and succumbing to being truly hateful. He also HATES bugs and tries to avoid them at all costs, since they creep him out.

+ Breaking points: Raph is quick to anger, especially when someone's being idiotic or what he thinks is stupid. He's protective to a fault so if he thinks someone is being self-sacrificing, he's going to scream his head off at them. He feels too hard and tries to hide tears, but losing anyone close to him - either through death or severe injury - will make him break down there. Any father-figure that he may gain being harmed would also trigger this - especially if he thought them dead.

+ Values: Raph's pride in himself is one of the strongest traits he has. He knows he's a good fighter and does his best to try and be a good son and brother to his friends and family. He admires people who keep going no matter what and will help those who want to better themselves. He especially tries to uphold a good code of conduct, but will throw it out the window if he has to protect someone who cannot protect themselves.

+ How do they handle change and trauma? Specifically the changes and trauma of turning into a monster?: Raphael's world is full of body horror and transformation changes - he's experienced many of them over the years of fighting mutants and has been transformed himself multiple times. It often doesn't last or is reverted somehow, which would prompt him to think 'not again' for the beginning signs. Once it's clear that he's actively changing and there's no 'cure' he will stress about it - especially if it something that brings out his negative traits or might harm others.

Powers/Abilities:

🐢 Ninjistu - trained by his father, Raphael is a skilled ninja: which includes acts of stealth, speed and disappearing into the shadows. He's exceptional at this, especially with his sai, though he is quick to adapt with improvised weaponry.

🐢 Mutant - given that he is a mutant turtle, Raphael has enhanced strength and stamina. He can take hits that a normal human wouldn't and still get up to keep fighting. He is the strongest of his brothers in terms of physical strength, being able to go toe to toe with foes bigger than him. It also tends to lend well for his brawling, taking limited injuries that would harm others, making him the front liner for most people to protect them. He can also pop into his shell for defense if it comes down to it.

🐢 Industrious/Construction - he often is helping build and scavenge for parts with his brothers for their creations to fight foes and knows his way around a blowtorch. He's not afraid of hard work when it needs to be done.

🐢 Painting/Drawing - Raphael actually has an affinity for art, though he tends to hide it from others.

Inventory:

🗡️ Sai
🗡️ Brown belt with pouch for carrying gear
🗡️ His main outfit of red bandanna, cloth wraps on arms and legs, and the brown elbow/knee pads (also this can be seen here for reference)

Game Plans: I've never played in a game with monster transformations here, so I plan on exploring what that means between characters, while mucking around with Raphael's sense of self with the transformation. He's very dependent on being near his canon brothers, so taking him away from them would give him new experiences and have to grow from it as well. This will be fun to explore with the other characters within the game itself, especially with the way that everyone is changing and conflict is bound to happen.

Monster Choice:

I'm really torn between Infernal and Swarm - both sound cool as hell. Obviously any of the three I could work with and would be happy with but I'm really leaning toward the Infernal or Swarm picks as 'equal footing' rather than one over the other.

INFERNAL/Demon: I like the overall traits in the Infernal class - which would fit well with Raphael's best and worst features. The general hatred of angelic things would tip his anger over the edge when facing opposing things, which would could cause problems with potential "good" vs "evil" characters as by his nature, he tries to be a good person. He's loyal to those close to him naturally, so pushing it over the edge with the compulsion trait sounds really fun to play around with, as well as a protectiveness that might borderline on obsessive.

SWARM/Thri-Keen: HE WOULD HATE THIS which is why I'm extremely tempted by it to force him to deal with it (as he's afraid of bugs). The traits here would work well with his ninja skills, giving him a better chance to be proactive with the boost of strength, the hive mentality would keep him with the group, and also give him conflict because he would utterly hate getting bug wings or anything that would make his skin crawl. He'd have to get over it to be productive with the convoy and could give him some growth, while having to deal with becoming monstrous. It'd be really good character growth as well.

ELEMENTAL/Genasi or Slime: The emotional outbursts and the like do well for him - link that to elemental powers and he'd really have to learn how to control it. Would be leaning toward fire for this one and the thought of a turtle walking through fire to heal himself also sounds metal as hell. Couldn't really pick a subspecies so listed both I liked in terms of category.

Vehicle Choice: His stealth bike/motor trike | Quality: TOUGH - the bike comes with a shielding system in canon that would match well to take hits. With this quality, the on board weaponry would be disabled or simply gone, but he'd try to rebuild it for fighting off monsters to help protect the convoy throughout the game.
